Je m’ennuie

It’s certainly been a while hasn’t it? In the meantime, it would appear that the blog hasn’t blown up and propelled me into celebrity status which quite frankly in my current state of mind I’d be perfectly well suited for. I’m sure my brain has died some time ago.

Likewise, to my fellow celebrities, who are actually famous, I too have failed to land a proper job. It happened last week as I applied for a role tutoring English. For the most part, the interview went well, I answered all her questions until there was a part where I had to pretend my interviewer was a student. I hadn’t heard her correctly and not knowing what to do my nerves got the better of me. Whatever, it’s done now. But I fear the biggest reason for failing to get this job was actually to do with some paperwork. I was told when applying for a social security number to get a job first. I applied for this job at the start of the year, they told me I had to get my degree translated, seventy euros and three months later, I got it. I re-apply for said job, they then say I need a security number, they also say they can’t understand why I was told I needed a job before applying for this number. So, even if I bossed the interview I would have been put on standby until I got my papers. If it took as long as my paper for translating my grade then it’ll be summertime by then and no kid wants a summer tutor.

I hope that didn’t bore you, my point is I’ve been doing nothing. I can’t sit here all and blame everything else. Sure, I’ve been naive in my own way, I tried looking for other ways to make money but boy, do you think the blog writer is a good businessman? I thought I’d try to offer some services online but I’ve had no bites. It’s understandable, there are many teachers, writers with experience who have taken their services online due to lockdowns.

It makes me sad that I haven't been up to anything worth writing about. Back in England I envisioned myself quickly getting a job. I thought I’d put as much money aside as I could and then travel throughout France. The top of my list was Normandy along with other places in the north marked by the war. I wanted to see Lourdes (could do with seeing it right now). The south also interested me as that’s where my girlfriend is from. I thought about trying as much French food as possible in chic restaurants but alas, all down the drain. I even somewhat gave up on this blog when I went to watch La Haine, hoping to write a review afterwards but stopped due to white subtitles on a black and white film. What are you trying to hide Frenchies?

Now, now, I can hear the disgruntled murmurs and yes, I appreciate that I am hardly a casualty of the pandemic by any stretch of the imagination. Most of this blog had been memories before the word covid had entered my vocabulary. But I once wrote that this blog allows for me to have something to look back on and so I guess I’m telling future me that I haven’t been as lazy as he may presume but things just don't go to plan during a worldwide pandemic.
